Addiction...

The eloquent words of my amazing husband...

The disease of drug addiction does not care who or what it destroys. Those in its grasp are sick, and lost, and hurting. They don't know how to stop because they have lost the choice to choose between right and wrong. They are insane.

The sole objective of the addict is to obtain their next fix. It overwhelms their entire being; their thoughts and their actions. Life stops, and death takes over. The disease renders the person completely selfish. They have no moral compass about where their next fix will come from. They will steal because the opportunity is there with total disregard for everything else. They are physically and/or mentally dependent upon what comes in front of them to steal.

Their only hope is that Grace will intervene and grant them a moment of clarity, otherwise, it is jail (which is a good thing), an institution (because someone cared), or death. This requires prayers from us, not seeking to understand their addictive behaviors---unless you are certified in these fields. You will never understand insanity unless you have been insane, or are schooled in it. Pray for them, because you will never understand their addictive behavior.

If you or someone you know suffer from addiction of any kind, there is help. There is freedom. There is recovery. Tell someone you trust. And ask for their help.
