He has shown us and told us what is good...and what He requires of us. He made it very simple for us.
Do what is right...
And what is right? Right is helping someone who needs it. Right is picking up trash that's blowing down the street. Right is reaching out to someone who needs encouragement. Right is obedience to God alone, and that can be a lot of things. Obedience is responding when the Holy Spirit prompts you to give money to someone. Or to give them something you love. Obedience is putting down your phone and talking face-to-face with the person who is lonely, hurting and needs to be loved. Obedience is self-sacrificial, serving others, showing love and being grateful.
Love mercy...
Show mercy when judgment has been displayed. Believe the best when the worst is all you can see. Pour out grace and kindness and love the way it was so lavishly poured out on me (and you). Look past the circumstances and see the child of God, who was created in the image of God, who is loved tremendously by God and who desperately needs to be loved despite their most unlovely behavior.
Walk humbly with your God...
I am simply a sinner. Saved only by His grace. Through no works of my own. I am wretched in my own sin, and completely unable to honor God on my own. So I walk...humbly...with a God who loves me beyond my wildest dreams and comprehension. He loves me in spite of the days when I don't walk so humbly. He loves me in spite of the days where I've been angry with him and wondered where He was. He loves me in spite of the promises I've made and broken. He loves me in spite of the times I've lost my temper, my faith and my way.
So, how in the world can I not do what is right, love mercy, and walk humbly with my God? When I am so undeserving of Him, "He demonstrated His great love for me by sending Christ to die for my sins while I was still a sinner." Romans 5:8
The answer is...I cannot. But only by the grace poured out to me, I will try. It will be nothing that I do. But who He is through me, and what He is able to do through me.
