Yesterday

January 4, 2013
It was cold, and two people in our house are sick...so I took this guy to the park to the play.
Super-PowerRanger-Spiderman showed his ninja skills as well as his softer side.

On the walk home...

Me: Do you know what I love about you?
Him: Um, do you love that I'm passionate and loving and kind? (He's 5).
Me: Haha. Well, yes, yes I do love that about you. You are passionate and loving and kind.

Tuesday...

I went running with a friend...and I remember why I love running early in the morning. Because it's over, done and I get on with my day.

I also remembered why I dislike running early in the morning, in the winter. It was cold. Really, really cold for Texas.

And it was not cute. Or, perhaps, I was not cute. Hat and headband to keep the heat in. Multiple layers.
It still wasn't enough.

Four miles. Done.

Photo of the day...January 2

Gingerbread house finally complete. It never happened last week. And you know, I decided I was okay with that. It was fun after Christmas to have something to do. To laugh with each other and pile on as much candy as one tiny, cookie home can hold.

Five things I want our kids to know about our family...

And the photo of the day...December 31
For the most part we all live in the same town, but for various reasons we aren't always together on holidays. So we decided (thanks to my awesome sister) to meet for burgers today. We are a close family, and we've certainly had our ups and downs. In the end, these are the people I can always count on for support, love and prayer. Two of my siblings, their families, and one nephew are missing from the photo, and they are always missed when they're not present.

Here are five things I want my kids to know about our family.

1. God first, husband second, kids third, family fourth. In that order, once you are married. My prayer is for your heart to be filled with love for God and His Word. When your heart is full of love for God, it will be full of love for His children...which will include your spouse, your kids, your family and others. One of my favorite things about your dad is that his priorities are straight. He puts God first always, and I am second.

2. Your family, the family into which you were born, is fiercely loyal. We love you. We love being with you. We will defend you. Likewise, you should love and defend your family. You should run to their defense, because that's what family does. We have each other's back. I hope that you will love your family enough to defend them, encourage them, love them and enjoy them. That is my prayer for you.

3. We will hold you accountable. We will encourage you to be all that God created you to be. We will encourage you to pursue excellence in all things. We will encourage you to never settle for mediocrity. My prayer for you is that your heart will desire the things of God. When you desire the things of God, your heart will be set on pleasing Him and the choices you make will follow that.

4. We have made countless mistakes. Yes indeed, we have made countless mistakes. There are moments when I cringe over mistakes of the past. Some that are small like throwing a fit about not getting my way. Some are not so small. You are in a family of people...and people make mistakes. There was only one sinless, spotless man...Jesus. We are not Jesus. We know you will make mistakes. We will love you anyway. And we will love you enough to correct you since we're your parents (and family).

5. Enjoy every minute with your family. We are never promised a moment beyond the next. Make the most of today. Enjoy every minute with your family. Enjoy every minute with your parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins, and more...because this moment, it is the only moment you have. The future is never guaranteed. In these moments, show love. Show love so that when people leave your presence, they walk away feeling better than when they arrived.

I pray many things for you each day. As you grow, I can only imagine that the list of things I pray for you will grow.

Photo of the day...December 30

We have sundaes on Sunday...and we have sleepovers on Saturday. The kids look forward each week to sleeping on the floor in the dining room. Why this is fun, I have no idea, other than it's like a mini slumber party to them. Party on.

Two things I made this Christmas...both new recipes to me and they were fantastic! I will share them with you soon.

1. Homemade caramels. Easy. See a picture below.
2. Cheesecake. Delicious. Not pictured because we have none left. It was that good.

Photo of the day...December 23

Today two of the littles, my parents and I went to the Galleria to see the massive tree and decorations. Husband and Lego Man went shopping for me.

We definitely missed the husband and Lego Man. Life is always better when we're together.

We began the day with a cookie. Great idea Gramps!
Next we viewed the amazing tree in the center of the ice rink.
Then we had lunch at Grand Lux...delish!
Coolest thing on the menu ever. "The Greatest Cupcakes in the World." Basically, you get 4 cupcakes, icing, and toppings. Yes, please.

My parents. Love them so much! Why am I squatting over?
And, that's all folks!

Super-Spider-PowerRanger-Man has been using my camera a lot lately. He took these of me.

We took a quick trip over to In-n-Out Burger after running an errand. We ate dinner at 4 p.m. The kid were so confused at normal dinner time. They insisted we kiss for a photo. The yumminess was enjoyed by all.

Photo of the day...December 19

Do you ever...
Excuse the food crumbs on the cheeks, lips and teeth -- i just love his precious face! Such joy in those eyes!
What is she thinking? Behind those brown eyes, what is on her mind?

I must have a group of thinkers...he seems lost in thought too.
...stumble onto old photos...and wonder where the time went? What did I do with all those moments in between these photos and today? Did I love them? Did I show them? Did I teach them? Do they know? Do they know how much they are loved and cherished and treasured?

Do they know that even in the moments when they are fighting and unkind and unloving toward one another, I still love them and cherish them and treasure them?

Is that how God feels toward me? When I'm unlovely and unlovable...when I'm mean or snippy or crying or insecure, does He still love me the way I love them?

Yes...yes, He does. He does love me. More than I can comprehend. More than I am capable of loving them. And He does love you. Especially when I am most unlovely, because that is when I need Him most...

Jeremiah 31:3
"The Lord appeared to us in the past, saying:“I have loved you with an everlasting love;    I have drawn you with unfailing kindness."

Lots of photo-bombing going on here. My oldest was very unhappy about this photo...I suppose he's getting too old.
