- To get into a homeschool groove.
- To appreciate the unique way we educate our family...and ourselves.
- To understand that we have the whole day...to get it done.
- To understand it's not an all or nothing deal. In regular school (public or private), there are things you love and things you loathe; things you like and things you dislike; things you tolerate and things you embrace. Homeschool is exactly the same. We don't always love all of it, but we love it just the same.
- To understand that there is a better way than a cookie-cutter curriculum that may or may not fit your family's needs exactly.
- To understand that money doesn't have to spent to learn something.
- To understand that sometimes money does have to be spent...but not always.
- To understand that money should be managed well and used wisely. Money should never manage our lives or cause our focus to be in the wrong place. In other words, if my sweet kid is pulling his hair out over the $200 math and science curriculum I thought would be awesome for him (but it's not), then, it's time to cut my losses and move on to something he loves. I'd rather lose the money than lose my kid because he or she is miserable.
- To understand that grief over the way things were last year is both normal and necessary in order to move on in this crazy world full of people (who change our plans when we weren't expecting it).
I am already so pumped for next year...the way we will approach school and the way we will learn. I already have some awesome ideas about curriculum...that may or may not work. And I'm just excited to try.
I think I have finally relaxed...and the kids are then able to relax. Homerun kid has loved it from the beginning. Wonder Woman hasn't been so sure. Actually, she said she hated it...to every person we talked to since we started in August. But now, she's coming around. I think new things just take time to get used to.
I've got lots of ideas to share with you about our homeschool journey...
