Dressing for your body type

I am all about dressing for my body type. Since I'm almost in my mid-30s, I finally have figured out many things that work for my body type. I have also found many things that do not. It's easy now to shop for items that I know work for me. Many times I don't even need to try certain items on in the store because I know the fit will work. Many times I see something I love, but I don't even bother with it because it simply won't work on my body.

One item that does not work on my body type - I have an hourglass figure - is pre-ruffled fabrics. I have purchased the cutest pre-ruffled fabrics, sewed myself a skirt and been ready to wear it only to find that it added to weight to my figure. I don't want any extra fluff added, so I've decided to abandon the skirt that I made.

My suggestion is to look through your closet and pick out the 10 things you grab and wear most often. Chances are these are items that look good on you and compliment your figure. When you are looking to add to your wardrobe, these are the types and styles of clothing you should look for.

When you feel good in your clothes, you look good. Regardless of the current trend or fad, when you dress in clothes that work with your figure, you will feel good wearing them. As a result, you will also look good.

So for me, I have to avoid items like this, even though I personally think everything should have ruffles on it. I think I found this image at Target. I found it so long ago I've lost track of where I found it. Someone with a straight figure could pull this off and it would be precious with a chambray top, striped tank underneath and Sperry's, Toms or a great pair of wedge sandals.
